Christmas Day 2012 Train of Death

We picked up some water and coke for the inmigrantes dinner.
We made up 30 sandwiches ham, onion and tomato with creama.

The lads enjoyed the food, and actually a lot of other people had brought them food that day so we were nothing special.

We played a little soccer with the lads and it hammered home how we are obviously all the same.

We posed for a picture  and I wrote the name "glowpunk" on a wall so they could take it down and look up the photos when they wanted to and had better access to internet in the future. Hopefully someone reading this is one of them and likes the shots.

I think this guy is a great character. I feel like he looks and loved his positive friendly attitude despite his difficult situation.

A 'druggie' tried to stop the train, but one of the lads ran over and pulled him back. Some druggies hang around and are a little unpredictable The migrants are generally more relaxed and focused on their trip. Most seem to be travelling with a little help from God. I say this cause most had a cross and one or two of them mentioned that God had their back.a mix of happy go lucky lads, quiet lads, tough guys....
much like what you might come across in any group anywhere in the world. Only difference being that they are broke at this time and as a result of being dirty from travelling and being in large numbers can look a little intimidating at first glance. But smiles were a plenty. I felt that by the time we left they had our back should the druggies try any bullshit.

Some good clothes arrived and since the lads were well fed they were more interested in getting well dressed for the next leg than worrying about storing food for the journey. All in all a really nice day for them and us. A nice bunch of people who were enjoying the fact that it was Christmas day and that people were being nice to one another.

I am very interested in their decision to travel in this manner, considering the risks and  other factors that drive them to make the journey.

Lots of hugs exchanged at our parting. Lads were hoping to hop an the next train north at about 8pm. Two lads were going south since they were returning to Guatemala. There were about 100 people there today . But the group we were hanging out with was about 35 lads.

The train they travel on has been called the 'Train of Death'  worth a google. Going to try and make a documentary on it Glowpunk style in the future.  I jumped on with the migrants before with my mate damien but only ogt a few kilometres before we realised we were on the wrong train and had to jump off.  Good times/Tough times
