Glowpunk's financial situation today.
A lot of people have been asking me about my financial situation recently and how much I ''really'' have, so true to form I will just lay it out as openly as I always try to do. I have nothing to hide.. infact most of this is in interviews already and visible on the social media links on www.glowpunk.com. Problem is when you reach a certain amount of media coverage they omit some details to make their angle the story thus painting a picture you never intended painting. Kinda funny really, but also slightly annoying. Then in the interview with Des Bishop I seemed to be a little guarded... not sure why really so I thought hmmmm I better write it down as openly as possible. Mainly just so no one thinks I have dark secrets and also because I hate like most people being misinterpreted in a negative way.
I have 20 quid in my bank account and about 200 hundred cash in my pocket at the moment. I have two bars/restaurants in Mexico (with a friend of mine) that are about to come to fruition (hopefully) after 3 years and make some actual profits. When that will happen I don't know. Hopefully in the next 6 months. Every penny we make there we have to put back into the bars, for a million reasons. Normal business stuff, for first generation wealth. They are worth a bit but I may as well be completely broke cause all the money is tied up.
I started living in the tent because I had no money for rent at the time of the first video.Yes I could borrow money, but that seemed too easy. I owned a tent, I have a youtube channel and I wanted to finish a degree, of which I never did the last year. Arts.
I still have no regular income but have been given money for some video jobs that I have done. Will get paid in about a week I imagine (Not the tent series). That money will go to paying back my parents who I borrowed the price of fees from. I am focusing on studying and don't need a lot right now, since I dont have rent to worry about. I like-non linear thinking. Taking a loan seemed like a bad move interest wise and kinda boring to be honest.
My family are lovely and offer me money anytime I need it. But I try never to accept it. We would not be a wealthy family and we would not be poor.
I owe nothing to the banks. I am debt free, cash poor and asset rich.
I have no desire to be seen as poor. I have a desire to be seen as using my initiative!
I like the adventure that is living in the tent, and a 'can do attitude' in the face of 'adversity.' I have never claimed social welfare. If you do or have I'm delighted if it works for you. I may someday if I need it. So far I have not felt the need. I do not get a back to education allowance nor am I entitled to anything because I was away in Mexico for 3 out of the last 5 years trying to get my business interests in Mexico going. I applied for a fees abatement and they offered me 300 quid i will not avail of it now since i got money for those few video commissions.
I am back in university now because I had three years leave of absence from University granted, and needed to finish it while the course I studied previously is still relevant. I spent those years in Mexico mainly working on getting the business things going with a great friend of mine.
I plan on going back to Mexico at Xmas to help my friend look after the bars while he welcomes his new child into the world, money permitting. He deserves a break.
I am happy, and enjoying my adventure, just wanted to clear all that up in my usual far to open and shameless fashion.
I plan on moving to California next year to follow some opportunities that have arisen since making these videos. Nothing major, but will go anyway cause i'm just like that.
Now any questions?
