Just a thought!

Was looking around the class today and listening to people and thinking.... My God these freaks are eccentric!, then I remembered I am living in a tent. :)

Living in a tent at University 2

Just so you know,
Right now I am very very broke, but not for long. So please dont pity me. I have business interests that are maturing.(Yahoo!) And I will take you on that adventure too around xmas time. Should be fun. It will be in Guadalajara, Mexico. So, Mr. Fancy Businessman ....why are you broke?

Well it comes down to some choices and principles. As any business man worth their salt will tell you, sometimes you have to forget your own salary and comforts and pay your workers first and put your business first to reach your long term goals. Especially if you want to compete against people with a lot of money behind them.

My business partner David Walsh (A legend of a guy) and I needed to invest heavily in some restaurants we have over the last few months, and the next few months too. So, cash doesn't exist but assets do and those assets are not fluid right now. I could take a big loan with heavy interest from a bank, but, personally I like to operate outside of the banking system where possible, (because of what I perceive they have done to my country.) Basically, we have been pretty broke for about 4 years now as I build the business with my friend David. We do not come from wealthy families so every penny that comes in goes out, and that is fine. After all that is how 'new wealth' is made. Most people think when you have your own businesses that you are made of money. Nothing could be further from the truth. I think it takes 3-5 years before you ever make a single penny. Unless you are a hero, which I am clearly not.

Also, part of me wants to rebel against 'the norm.' Stick my two index fingers up at linear thinking, and also shout this as loud as possible ...'Why the F@ck should I live in a house if I can't afford to right now, just so you close minded folk feel ok, and your perfect world, where business men live in mansions doesn't collapse. Would you prefer I kept up appearances and lost everything including the 20 jobs David and I create.'....or something to that affect. This is how I roll and this 'madness' works really f@cking well in business. I dont owe a single penny to any institution and will hopefully be cashing in soon, if my luck holds out and hard work pays off. I am a product of every experience in life that I have ever had. Some awesome, some average and others bad.

Where am I coming from? I love to follow instinct and dare to risk big. I trust my brain and body to take care of me. I love non-linear disruptive action and thought. This "madness" is part of why man discovered flight and why some day there will be campsites near universities full of students. (I f@cking bet ya!)  Maybe part of why I am camping  is because I fear loosing the hunger and the edge that I have carried like a double edge sword my whole life. When the money finally arrives will it destroy my need to drive forward and adventure. Will I become a softer, a less interested in life version, of myself former self. Or, maybe it's just cause I am a little mad! There definitely could be some of that in the mix too. I won't deny that possibility, but as I like to say... 'You have to be a little nuts or you will go nuts.' When it comes down to it, I don't even know why I am doing this, apart from the fact that I want to and I am too short on cash to rent.

Where  my business interests are in Mexico right now is a very competitive, and for the last few months and the foreseeable future my business partner and I have opted to reinvest every cent to beat the competition. And, it is working gloriously, and I hope (if the risk and investment pays off) by the end of my time in University I will be on the up income wise once again.

So in a way this may be my last opportunity to really experience financial hardship. I believe it is just as important to embrace the bad experiences, as it is the good ones. Keeps you feeling alive and present, and also inspires new thought and ideas that may lead to somewhere great that you can't conjure up doing the same things day in-day out.

So please DONT FEEL SORRY FOR ME, or try to tell me that you know better. I love the messiness and hardship of life. I want this experience. I want to learn from this life. I will be dead and gone in less than 100 years and no matter what I do it will be forgotten in time. I am documenting this cause I want to,  and I feel driven to share the experience, and for a million other reasons I can't fathom or verbalise. Not everyone is going to like it, nor do I want everyone to like it. (Although some liking it would be nice.)

Millions have endured a lot more than me, for a lot longer than me. All the 'nay sayers' and trolls who don't see merit in this project/adventure, or find fault in how I roll, have nothing to do with my direction, or my personal development as a human. And try as they may to belittle my efforts all they are doing is  missing the point . No one knows why we are here, or what we are supposed to do with our lives. Being critical of another human just highlights an inability to think at any great depth. F@ck, even I know I know nothing and that I am of little or no importance on a grand scale.

So in conclusion, I am very happy now. I am here as a result of the choices and principles I choose to stand by, and because I want to communicate this simple message

-Life is Fucking Short, Live it!

I have a website www.glowpunk.com. My life is on there, like an open book. You can link up with me 1000 different ways should you wish.

Another year out from College

http://www.glowpunk.com/

My name is Glowpunk. I deferred my third year in Arts last year and need to defer for one more year. I moved to Mexico to take care of some business investments that needed my attention. ( As a result of the global economic downturn) They continue to need my attention and I am not in a position to return to return to NUIG for the year starting September 2010.

My degree is an Arts Degree. I was studying Psychology and Spanish. My last year's study was deferred without problems.(I believe by the Dean of Arts.)

Ideally I would like to recommence my studies in September 2011.

As a result of my present residence in Mexico I am almost fluent in Spanish which I believe will benefit me when I return to College in September 2011.

I am aware that I may not be contacting the right person in this instance, but would be very greatful if you could forward this email to the correct address, or perhaps send me the email address required.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

We are all Dying so lets start Living www.glowpunk.com

We are all Dying so lets start Living

It is often said that apart from change there is only one certainty and that is death. Most people don’t know when their time is going to be up! Those who know they are about to die usually take charge of their lives as best the can to maximize the short time they have left. Short is a relative term. A life of 100 years is a short time. People who only begin to glow brightly when they know they have a short time left to glow may be starting a little late. Better late than never. Start now!

Start living now as if you know you are on your last legs because you are! To do anything else is almost ridiculous. Maximize your experiences on this earth. Maximise the emotions you feel and the time you spend being happy. To do otherwise is wasting what little time you have left. If you are lucky you have a maximum of 100 years. If you live like you are about to die you can live 10 lifetimes in one…Now that is good value!

www.glowpunk.com Are You A Dog?

http://www.glowpunk.com/

Are you a dog?

Dogs are trained over time to recognise that if they run away they will be missing out on the easy meals, shelter and the comfortable lifestyle they are used to. They may be being treated badly by their owners but they remain with them anyway. They are afraid to venture outside their comfort zones in case something better doesn’t exist. The animals often have the opportunity to go out and adventure, but they never do. Are humans similar?

We as humans have been blessed with slightly more able minds than the animals we keep. However sometimes we too find it too frightening and too hard to venture outside our comfort zones. How is your current way of living your life similar to that of a household pet? If you did decide to cast of the invisible shackles of modern living, what would you do and where would you glow?

www.glowpunk.com It Is OK To Love Yourself

http://www.glowpunk.com/

It Is OK To Love Yourself

You cannot affect positive change in others unless you first embrace a positive sense of yourself. It is OK to love yourself and appreciate every nuance of your individuality. Embrace all that is you. Appreciate your ‘strengths’ and ‘weaknesses.’ Acknowledge that you are flawless and that what some people may consider faults in your persona are merely nuances of your personality that are slightly out of sync with what they or society at that instant accept as the norm.
Everything about you is neither good nor bad. Good and Bad is only a human construct. Every element of your being deserves respect. And every element of everyone around you deserves respect. So how does loving yourself aid you in your endeavours to help others glow?

Imagine these scenarios: If you don’t treat yourself you may begrudge those around you that you treat or who treat themselves. If you don’t eat you may feel hostility to those around you who eat without restraint. If you don’t love yourself you may not find it as easy to love those around you. By loving yourself you allow yourself to glow and by glowing you help others love themselves. Being good to yourself is OK.

www.glowpunk.com. LOVE

      http://www.glowpunk.com/

Love

Love is an ever transient enigma! The word itself is a human construct and has no real bond or ties with the real world. We made the word up to simplify an incredibly complex set of reactions to the world around us. Then we packaged it, marketed it, and sold it to our families, children and friends.

Basically we wrapped up one of the most important human experiences in a four letter word. Don´t let the world wrap you up, or put you in a box. Don´t allow other peoples vision of you become your own. You are more complex and more important than love or any other human creation. Accept your greatness and embrace it.  Glow baby glow!

www.glowpunk.com Small Changes lead to Big Results.

http://www.glowpunk.com/

Never underestimate the power of small changes. You have to do lots of little things in order to achieve a big goal. If you want to run a mile you have to take the first step. If you want to run a marathon you have to run the first mile. If you are going to achieve big you have to start small. If you only focus on making the big changes you might be deterred from starting initially. You want to glow big you got to start with a spark!

Decide what positive step you can take right now that moves you in the direction you want to go. No matter how small the act it is a step in the right direction. Acknowledge every small thing you do. This will drive you forward and help you to make more changes and glow brighter. If you are finding it hard to get out of bed, sit up. If you are finding it hard to go outside get dressed. If you are finding it hard to make friends, take up an activity.

What small change are you going to make today that moves you in the direction you want to go?

www.glowpunk.com Change The Truth

Change The Truth

www.glowpunk.com

Every day is different from the last and today is going to be different too. If you try to remain the same or do not remain flexible you will fail to glow at your brightest. You will remain stationary while the whole universe around you changes. Embrace change. Expect change. Instigate change. After all, change is the only constant. Initially it will be difficult, but like all things with practice it can become second nature. With a little bit of practice you can be a glower.

Why do people have any fixed views? It seems obvious that we are only working on information compiled by those before us. There is no right and wrong. Only what society over time has decided works best for society. There are no Absolutes. There is no real 'Truth.' There are only belief systems that are based on little more than the belief systems of generations of sheepish followers and yes men.

So decide what you believe in and create your own truth. What are you going to change today? Remember you may die soon so you may not have much time.

www.glowpunk.com 7 Rules for Train Surfing

 http://www.glowpunk.com/

Rules for Train Surfing

1. Pick your boarding location.

Find a place where you can jump on easily and where security is at a minimum. Trains tend to move slower through built up areas and when going down or up steep hills.

2. Reconnaissance.

It is a good idea to go out to your planned boarding point in advance and get a good feel for what you will have to do to board safely and without being caught.

3. Be Prepared.

Always carry enough water and food to keep you hydrated and energized. It is not uncommon for trains to cross vast areas where there is no resources should you have to dismount for any reason. (You may get stuck on a train longer than you planned.)

4. Dress Appropriately

In a warm climate: Always bring enough clothing to cover every inch of your body and protect against sunburn. (You may get stuck on a train longer than you planned.)

In a warm and cold climate: Ensure you bring enough clothing to keep you warm in both the day and night. Hypothermia can be a real risk if you have to stay on longer than anticipated. Also remember to wear clothing that is not prone to snagging or impeding your movement.

5. Security/Weapon

When you are boarding the train keep an eye out for other train surfers. It is not unreasonable to be prepared for more hardened less whimsical characters than yourself. Many train surfers/drifters/hobos use the trains as a method of transport because they have no other means of transport. They may be welcoming or unwelcoming depending on the individual. Either way it is best to plan for the worst and hope for the best. A weapon/attacker deterrent and an escape route are not being too careful. Ensure that you are aware of where you are in relation to other train surfers at all times.

6. Legalities

Remember that what you are doing is illegal in 99.999% of the world. So try and be fit and agile so you can run like a gazelle for a long period of time should you have the need. Some security forces can be brutal.

7. Have Fun.

Wind in your hair, adrenaline pumping, adventure and risk and generally a different view of the world around you. Enjoy it!

www.glowpunk.com Selling your ass

http://www.glowpunk.com/

Why put a ceiling on your potential or your income. Why be a slave to the corporate machine? You study all your life and then you settle for a job that pays you to live a life of mediocrity until you are two old and too conditioned to change to see that your spirit has been crushed. Be your own boss asap! Glow a little!

The worst that can happen is that you will fail dramatically, loose everything you own, and end up living on the streets selling your ass for your next fix of crack. It is eithertake a chance and possibly succeed or you continue to sell your ass to your boss like a corporate whore.

You’ll be dead soon! Cease the day. ha ha!

www.glowpunk.com Life is not about the Struggle

www.glowpunk.com

Life isn’t about the struggle.

Human beings are built to struggle. Many say we are made up of two parts, the body and the mind. There is nearly always conflict between the two. Our bodies may be old but we feel young. We may physically desire the affections and attentions of another, but our minds may guide us away from that person for various reasons. These two simple examples illustrate to us that even on at our most basic level of existence we are struggling. As individuals we struggle with ourselves.

Then we get up in the morning and the first person we meet has ideas and plans of their own that are completely dissimilar to our own. So now, not only are we struggling with ourselves but we have to factor in the desires of others and acknowledge their struggles and problems.

Then to confuse it all many of us have been brought up within a religious context. Even those who call themselves agnostics and atheists have chosen a belief (or lack of) system to further complicate their struggle.

So my fellow glowers, you are at war with your own bodies, the people around you and an invisible force that created you (or you are clueless to why you are here which is a tough position to be in too). So what can you do? Surely there must be something you can do to make life easier. Well my fellow glowers, my advice would be...... accept it, and move on. Essentially 'Get Over It!' The struggle will always exist, but you can choose how much importance to give it. Life isn’t about the struggle. It is about everything but the struggle.

www.glowpunk.com 'Your value as a human'

www.glowpunk.com

Your value as a human

You are invaluable. Opinions and beliefs are human constructs. There are no rules, no boundaries. Everybody including yourself will attempt to apply a method of measurement to you at some stage of your life. Whether it is a government institution grading you in exams, or a person for whom you are hoping to work. Measures will be applied whether you like it or not. Just remember that they are as irrelevant as you choose to make them.

Do not to become a slave to opinion, REBEL. Remember to glow your own way. Living up to other people’s expectations is neither productive nor fun. So why not take a chance and risk it all being slightly different. Not different just for the sake of it, but because you feel drawn in a direction. Like an invisible force pulling you towards the reality that feels best for you. Why live someone else’s dream?

Fight conformity, when you do you will be surprised with what happens. Like all new ideas, your ideas may first be ridiculed. Secondly, once proven to work your ideas will be accepted as great. And finally your idea will be copied by those who ridiculed you in the first place.

Don’t let those who do not know how to glow destroy your dreams. You are here for a short time. Be aware that you are going to die soon because that will remind you how important it is to take action now and glow. You are as young as you will ever be. Now is the time to do the things you want to do!

Pragmatism 3

As if making a fly hook for one of his many salmon fishing trips on the boyne my grandad carfully bound the base of the ugly mole tightly and cut off the blood supply to the offending party. After a week the starved and shrivelled mole simply fell off. The newly beautified patient spread this story years later.

Sometimes the most simple action is the best course of action. Sometimes not taking action is the most enticing route. But remember life is very short. Take action. Glowers take action.

Grandad 3

Above the surface everybody was silent, nobody dared to speak for fear of jinxing the rescue attempt. Silence and inaction is always the safest option but glowers is it the right option. Below the surface, adrenaline, the overwhelming desire to save another human and the knowledge that he was running out of breath drove my grandad deeper into the cold dark waters of the quarry. Finally, after a number of dives ,exhausted and close to hypothermia Alex freed the workers lifeless body from the barrels below and managed to raise it to the surface near the quarry edge.

To late to save the quarry worker's life, but not to late to set an example and shape the mind of a not yet born glowing grandson.

Grandad 2

On the move he carried out an assesment, his mind working fluidly. Narrowing down the options as if instantaneously. He grabbed a hunting knife from his car and began gathering information from those around him as he cast his shoes off.

At the same time an onlooker arrived with a length of rope and proceeded to tie one end around my grandfathers waist. Before anyone in the gathering crowd could grab the loose end of the safety rope Dr. Alexander Moore was fighting his way down to the trapped worker below. Those above could only watch the bubbles rise, the rope move, the splash from his dive fall and the ripples from his hasty rough but functional dive fade.  Was he the only glower at the scene? Speed was of the essence.... to be continued

Grandad 1

I was very young when I heard this story first and its been a long time since it has been recounted, but because of the nature of the story and the actions taken by my grandfather it has stayed in my mind for over 20 years.

Arriving at the scene of an accident in a waterlogged quarry, my grandfather took action while others stood around frozen by panic and confusion. He was a glower. With youth on his side and a razor sharp mind, my grandfather leaped from his car. A man was trapped beneath some barrels in the chilly mirky quarry water deep below the surface.... to be continued.

www.glowpunk.com 'Fight the Power'

http://www.glowpunk.com/

Frog

I awoke one night in Liberia Africa to a strange noise. We were in a jungle area sleeping in tents underneath the moons glow. The perimeter of our patrol harbour was secure, or so we thought. Surely nothing could disturb us, or get at us, but something did. A small frog was making every effort to jump over my tent. Repeatedly he jumped against the man made wall of my one man tent. Each time he tried he slid back down to earth. At first my conditioned mind thought ‘silly creature,’ but I was wrong.

He was not failing, quite the contrary. Through his many attempts he was learning. He also succeeded in waking me up. Not just physically but mentally too. And who is to say with persistence he would not achieve his goal. He was taking a stand. He encountered something new and unknown that night and instead of going around it, ignoring it or pretending it didn’t exist he chose to question and struggle for his innate desires . That night froggy glowed!
